This year the Artown Opening Night celebration July 1 is a multi-venue extravaganza kicking off with family activities and art projects on the lawn outside Reno Aces Ballpark and throughout the Freight House District. Back by popular demand is face painting for 280 children by Body Masterpiece where children will be transformed into butterflies, super heroes and wild animals. We’ll also have mural painting and t-shirt decoration, a bounce house and games from the Reno Aces. Then join the raucous parade through downtown Reno to Wingfield Park with MarchFourth Marching Band. The party continues with Miami-based band Tiempo Libre and its incendiary, joyful performance rich with the sounds of timba, an irresistible, dance-inducing mix of high-voltage Latin jazz and the seductive rhythms of son. Still amped for more? Follow MarchFourth Marching Band to the Knitting Factory for more of their big band spectacle. Opening Night is sponsored by City of Reno Arts and Culture Commission, Friends of Artown, Reno Aces, Freight House District, MomsLikeMe.com. Host hotel Siena Hotel Spa Casino. .

Take Your Best Friend To Artown

clock May 14, 2010 12:27 by author Artown

It’s all about your four-legged friends at the 10th annual Art Paws and Bark Fest Sunday, July 18, 2010, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at McKinley Arts and Cultural Center, located on Keystone Avenue and Riverside Drive in Reno.  This year the event has been combined with Art Bark Fest, formally held in Squaw Valley, CA, and it’s free to attend for pooches and people alike. At this event you can free your animal’s mind, body, and soul! Art Paws & Bark Fest has featured artisans displaying everything from fine jewelry to crystal sculptures, to oils and watercolors, all with an animal theme.  Peruse gorgeous glass mosaic pieces created from your pet’s photo or visit the owner of Cholla, the horse that paints—yes, this horse paints! And you can reach out to your inner puppy with the help of a dog psychic.  While live jazz plays several renowned vineyards will be pouring their vintages from 12 – 4 p.m., many of which are animal themed, with varietals such as Graeser Winery’s 2002 Two Dog Vineyard Merlot, and Mutt Lynch Winery’s Unleashed Chardonnay.

All proceeds benefit animal-focused non-profit agencies including Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe and three others chosen by the readers of PetFolio Magazine.
