This year the FREE party has three venues, activities for children and adults including face painting and dancing, live music and a parade. Really, it’s the kick-off to an entire month of arts and culture, nearly 400 events, 63% free and all of them spectacular. Children can become a part of Artown’s Opening Night Extravaganza with FREE face painting during the afternoon festivities at the Freight House District. Activities begin at 4 p.m. when Body Masterpiece, back by popular demand for a third year, will transform children’s faces into butterflies, wild animals, super heroes and more. Space is limited and reservations can be made online, especially to fill time slots at 4:30, 5 and 6:30 p.m. Children must be at least 3 years old for the face painting.  Additional children’s activities, from 4 – 6:45 p.m. at the Freight House District, include the U.S. Bank Children’s Mural, t-shirt painting with the Children’s Cabinet, performances by TheatreWorks Northern Nevada and Folkloric Ballet, bounce houses and additional activities sponsored by the Reno Aces.  Opening activities are sponsored by the Freight House District, Reno Aces, MomsLikeMe.com, City of Reno Arts and Culture Commission and Friends of Artown.
