In recent years, Ailey II has become a renowned dance company in its own right, winning rave reviews and regularly selling out its North American tour stops and annual New York seasons. Now at the peak of its popularity, the Company is looking forward to bringing its unique spirit to audiences who have long embraced Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater’s performances. Ailey II’s touring repertory will include a mix of beloved classics, contemporary favorites and innovative new works.
Alvin Ailey personally appointed former Ailey member, Sylvia Waters, as Artistic Director in 1974. Under her direction, Ailey II has flourished into one of the most popular dance companies in the country, combining a rigorous touring schedule with extensive community outreach programs. The 12 members of Ailey II are handpicked by Ms. Waters from the student body of The Ailey School. This junior company acts as a bridge between the School and the professional world, offering unique opportunities for young artists to refine their technique while gaining invaluable experience.
