Perhaps the only event during Artown where the audience outshines what happens on stage, Pops on the River is an unforgettable music and part experience. This year slated for July 11, Pops on the River brings together Broadway star Hugh Panaro with the Reno Philharmonic Orchestra for the annual Reno Philharmonic Guild fundraiser. The true show, however, is with the audience who arrive early, decorate their tables and dress up in costumes that range from the comical (think “Reno 911!”) to over the top (men and women both dressed up as Carmen Miranda).
This fabulous event takes place at Wingfield Park in downtown Reno along the Truckee River. Lead by Nevada Opera conductor Michael Borowitz, Panara and the Reno Phil cover all the songs Broadway fans have grown to love. Hugh Panaro has been described as "the leader of Broadway’s dwindling supply of great leading men." Critically lauded and adored by fans, he demonstrates versatility, charisma, tremendous vocal talent, and, in the words of one former costar, movie star good looks.
Proceeds from Pops on the River help support the Reno Philharmonic Orchestra and the two Youth Orchestras. Gates open for table decorating at 5PM with admission gates open at 6PM The performance begins at 8PM.
